“The Firstline programme has really improved the motivation of participants who now have the confidence to try different approaches to difficult situations. This new mood of confidence and optimism is something that has spread throughout the team.”
There has been a significant impact on the organisation with staff who have participated in the Firstline programme. They have shared some of the learnings and specific aspects of the programme, but more importantly they have spoken with their colleagues enthusiastically and this has infected the whole management team.
When the call has gone out for interest in further cohorts and selection events these have been well attended and others are motivated to be part of the programme because of what they have heard. It has also given those who have participated ideas about how they can share their learning and they are setting up mechanisms to develop peer support sessions to
draw in their colleagues.
One of the significant challenges in Northumberland is size and geography. The Firstline programme has provided managers from different parts of the county with an opportunity to share dilemmas, solutions and align practice. They have offered each other support and provided a peer network that leads to consistency. When one of the Firstline leaders has a tricky issue, they now have access to a wide network of support that can offer a different view.

The managers have spoken of getting to know each other and breaking down barriers and feeling more confident in their decisions. They are very keen to continue to apply the principles and approaches that they have developed and want to encourage others to participate in the future.
Staff have mentioned to me the difference that they have seen. One commented that their manager has ‘her buzz back’ and they are enthused by the new ideas and approaches she is bringing to supervision.

Doing the Frontline programme has given me a passion I didn’t know I had and has opened up a world of opportunities.
Through the Fellowship, I’ve been able to stay in touch with developments in the profession through the leadership series and develop my interviewing and assessment skills through work on the Frontline assessment centre.
Firstline has helped me look at how I manage my staff. It’s helped me identify that whilst I’m good at managing performance I’m not great at interacting with extreme levels of emotions.
Frontline has provided a varied, dynamic and challenging model of practice with families, which has impacted positively on the development of the students, managers and practitioners within the teams.

When I saw the post of Frontline CSW, I knew it would be an exciting opportunity to do something different but continue working in a way which I am really passionate about.
