Lidija Godina

Lidija is principal practice tutor for the London region. With a keen desire to understand family relationships, Lidija was drawn to working with children and families after qualifying as a social worker in 1995. Her passion for knowledge drove her to move into social work education some years later. Over the last 17 years, she has had the privilege to teach social work to qualifying and post-qualifying students at different universities, whilst contributing to teaching in a number of areas such as social work theory, social policy, child development, child observation, parenting, social justice, motivational interviewing and research methods.

Lidija’s professional background and teaching experience at the University of Reading have stimulated her research into the relationship between values parents hold and their parenting practices, resulting in a PhD from the University of London in 2008. This was followed by amongst others, a course in child development at Tavistock Clinic, an approach relevant to her current role at Frontline. During her time at the University of Bedfordshire, she took part in numerous training opportunities to train in motivational interviewing, resulting in her involvement with the project examining its effectiveness in social work practice.

Throughout Lidija’s academic career, she has prepared documentation for validation of new courses, such as the development and delivery of post-qualifying courses in the area of children and families. This included creation and delivery of a course/module in motivational interviewing for qualified social workers at the University of Bedfordshire.

In her current role as a principal practice tutor at Frontline, Lidija is committed to supporting students and consultant social workers to developing knowledge and skills that are underpinned by the Frontline practice model. Subsequently, she is keen to establish if, when and how motivational interviewing and systemic practice can coexist in interactions with children, their families and carers.
