It is encouraging to see the newly published Children’s Wellbeing Bill has a strong focus on strengthening collaboration between services which support vulnerable children. We know that strong multi-agency working is crucial to improve outcomes for children and families. In our recent Snapshot report, three-quarters of social workers said they were only able to collaborate effectively to some extent with other agencies.

We are also pleased to see an increase in local authority funding for Family Help services, which we believe can reduce pressure on children protection services, and more importantly help keep families together.

However, what really matters is how this bill progresses to become law and is put into action. It is clear that bold systems change is needed, and we hope this government is able to keep doing more for children at risk of harm and the professionals supporting them day-in and day-out.
