Stride Through Summer

Take on 700,000 steps this summer and help make life better for children at risk of harm. Walk, run or move your way through July and August while raising money to support Frontline’s work with children.

Too many children are growing up without the support they need

By taking on Stride Through Summer, you will help Frontline work towards its mission: to make life better for children at risk of harm by improving the services that support them.

From July to August, you’ll take on the challenge of 700,000 steps. That’s around 11,500 steps a day, and one for every child in England who needs a social worker each year.

You can take on the full challenge yourself or share the steps with friends, family or colleagues. However you choose to do it, you’ll be boosting your wellbeing, raising vital funds, earning great rewards, and making a difference for children at risk of harm.

FAQs

How does Stride Through Summer work?

You’ll aim to complete 700,000 steps between 1 July and 31 August. You can walk, run or move in any way that works for you.

How many steps do I need to do each day?

700,000 steps over two months works out at around 11,500 steps a day.

To complete the challenge and receive your medal, you will need to reach 700,000 steps by 31 August.

You can spread this across your day, for example during your commute, at lunch or in the evening.

How do I track my steps?

You can track your steps using a fitness device, such as a Fitbit, Apple Watch or Garmin. You can also use free mobile apps or a pedometer on your phone.

We will provide a printable step tracker if you would prefer to record your steps manually. You can keep this on your fridge or somewhere you will always see it, to remind you of your progress and help you plan to reach your goal.

What activities count towards my steps?

You can build your steps into your daily routine in a way that works for you.

This could include:

  • walking or running
  • using a treadmill at the gym
  • playing sport
  • walking while doing everyday activities, such as commuting or shopping.

There are so many ways you can build your steps into your normal day, for example:

  • A 20–30 minute dog walk could help you gain roughly 2,000–3,000 steps
  • A 20 minute walking commute each way could help you gain roughly 3,000–4,000 steps total
  • A lunchtime walk could help you gain roughly 1,500–2,500 steps
  • Shopping, cleaning, errands or walking around the house: all things that add up throughout the day.

All movement counts towards your total.

What if I fall behind on my steps?

That’s okay! Many people have busier weeks than others.

You can catch up by adding extra steps on other days or at weekends. The challenge is designed to be flexible, so you can build your steps around your routine.

Is there a fundraising target?

Yes. We ask you to raise a minimum of £100.

We will provide support and guidance to help you reach this target.

Who can take part?

Anyone can take part. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian will need to register on your behalf and take part with you.

Can I take part as a team?

Yes, though each person will need to sign up individually.

One person can then create a team through their fundraising page by choosing a team name and setting a fundraising target. Others can join by selecting the same team name when they sign up.
