Our purpose

For the hundreds of thousands of children at risk of harm, the right support can make all the difference. Our work makes sure they get that support.

Our vision is of a society where no child’s life chances are limited by their social or family circumstances.

Our mission is to make life better for children at risk of harm by improving the services that support them.

Why what we do matters

Hundreds of thousands of children in England experience or are at risk of harm each year.

Children living through difficult circumstances often face challenges no child should. Some might be cold, hungry or unable to focus at school. Others may experience abuse, trauma or neglect, lacking the love, care and protection they need to grow.

This not only harms them now but, without help, can do long-term damage too.

Professionals like social workers can be the difference between a family being able to get through tough times or not. To stay together and thrive. Or to take steps that means a child is kept safe from harm. At the heart of their work is advocating for children, letting them know they have someone in their corner.

The reality today

51%

of children in need have experienced neglect

77%

increase in serious child protection cases over the last 10 years

33K

children entered the care system in 2024, a 0.1% decrease from 2023

Together we can make things better

There has been some improvement in the sector over the recent years – with less social work vacancies in children’s services and fewer children entering the care system. However, more must be done to address urgent challenges such as extrafamilial harm and to combat the growing mental health crisis that is affecting so many young people.

Unfortunately, still not enough children at risk of harm receive the support they need. And outcomes for these children are not good enough.

What we do

At Frontline, making life better for children is at the heart of everything we do.

We develop great practice in services which support children at risk of harm

We develop excellent leadership in these services

We support innovation and systems change in these services

We advocate for children at risk of harm and the professionals who support them

All this work helps ensure children and their families get the high-quality support they need. That means more children safe from abuse. More families kept together. A loving stable home for more children. And better outcomes for children who experience harm.

It is through individuals like Sarah that families like ours can find solace during challenging times. I believe that had we have been allocated a social worker like her from the beginnings, things may have turned our differently for us.”
